Of course as you mention if the site is a no- follow it is worthless for link building. Most of these people that drop spam comments have no SEO knowledge and are just doing what they are told from some nit wit that mentioned to them it was a good thing to do. I am bombarded daily from mindless people that don’t take the time to write anything about the article I have written.

I have never thought about it like weeds before. I had a high traffic real estate blog I once contributed to daily. It got to the point where I spent more time deleting mindless posts from people who never really even read my work. After spending hours a week having to delete comments from Divorce Lawyers, medicine salesman, other real estate agents, I had finally had enough. Once I quit moderating the blog it grew over with weeds. I refused to put limitations on the blog as I am all for free speech, but I had to pull it. Good luck with you fight on spam!

That potato vine is a nasty sounding weed. It can grow a foot a day? wow. We have crazy weeds in California too. There is one vine we have that has little thorns on it which makes weeding a major pain, but if the vine gets a toe hold in the yard, it spreads like wildfire!
I like this post and the analogy. One must be vigilant, for once one spammer sees another has successfully left a spammy comment, other spammers come out of the wood work and the virus spreads like a terminal cancer…
Perhaps I am getting a little too carried away… 🙂
Anyway, great post!
Steve, the tradeshow ninja!
PS. Do you think Caffeine has gone live, and have you seen any changes? I’m reading people saying it has, but I don’t see any major changes (at least in what matters to me).
